First Look - Crysis 3 (PC/XBOX360/PS3)

Waiting to strike: The hunter takes a knee to survey his surroundings

HIDING in the shadows of a dilapidated sky-scraper, the hunter waits. Between you and your objective are hundreds of heavily armed soldiers – all with ‘Kill On Sight’ orders.
Time to assess your options. Do you:
1. Activate your armour and head straight out into a barrage of machine gun fire.
2. Pick up a two-ton object and hurl it at your foes.
3. Activate your speed, and cover the quarter-mile of exposed terrain in a matter of seconds.
4. Cloak and infiltrate the enemy position unnoticed.
It's these type of choices that have made the Crysis series some of most critically-acclaimed first-person shooters ever made.
They administer a much-needed injection of open, sand-box gameplay into a world flooded with on-the-rails first person shooters (not naming any names).
Add to the mix a very angry man called Prophet in a state-of-the-art nanosuit, and you know you’re in for a good time.
Obviously, the nanosuit is the star of the show here. It can turn you from super-strong to faster than Usain Bolt in a nano-second.
If things get too hectic, its special weave transforms you into a walking bullet-resistant machine of chaos, while for stealth missions – you can use cloak and turn invisible.

Think it's time to use the armour! You'll have to use your suit's powers wisely

Plot sees Prophet head to New York City only to find that it has been encased in a giant Nanodome created by the corrupt Cell Co-operation.
It has become an urban rainforest – swarming with dense trees, raging rivers and swamp life.
Unsurprisingly, Cell’s motives behind this Nanodome are sinister, so Prophet sets about to deliver some justice. Other friends including Alcatraz and Psycho (from the previous games) will feature, too.
Crysis games have always been graphical showcases for consoles and PC, and it’s safe to say visuals in Crysis 3 raise the bar once more.
PC fans will say their version will be the best of the bunch (and it's likely to be true), but that’s not to say Xbox and PS3 users should be disappointed.

The CryEngine 3, behind Crysis 2, works well on consoles, and looks even more refined and sharp in this latest outing. 
There’s a much greater sense of scale in Crysis 3. The narrow, often cramped areas in its urban-based predecessor didn’t offer enormous scope for tactics. But that seems to have been addressed, with a move back towards the original and more ‘open’ Crysis.
Crytek want you to be able to make full use of their stunning jungle playground, and learn how to be the most effective hunter possible.
Weapons-wise, the biggest new addition is the bow. You may ask why, in an age of super-high tech nanosuits, spaceships, aliens and weaponry from other planets, Prophet decides to wield a bow and arrow – but it does look like great fun.

Plus, like its predecessors, you’ll be able to customise each weapon to the task in hand.
Want to go in silently? Attach a silencer. All-out assault? Why not add a grenade launcher or exploding arrow tip.

We can’t wait for this Crysis to happen.
